Hilarious(not really). Clemson students have to pay more for school because of salary for Venables!
and Dabos of course. Always good to see they have their priorities in order up thar.
Oh, but where are the 'well informed and unbiased' Tater Tots who write to The State paper about Carolina's misplaced priorities while singing the praises of Tillman's Prep School For Young Rednecks?
Ok. I'll take the bait here. You do realize that the state only pays the coach's base. For Clemson that means around 260k, for Carolina its around 1 mill. The rest of the salaries come from licensing, alumni, TV etc
Both schools have an overall budget around 1 billion, and state contributions are around 100 million. The ADs fall under “special programs” or something similar in the budget. The athletic department budgets include the full salaries plus bonuses, etc., and for both schools, the ADs are self-supporting (with the state backing athletic bonds of course). The base salary goes mainly into the pension calculation, not sure what else. USC collects some small student fee that goes to the AD, Clemson doesn’t. Some analyses show Clemson with a subsidy and USC without, but that’s just a difference in the accounting of out of state tuition waivers.
