Clemson just landed it's first in state commit of the 2019 class in a year with very little to choose from as far as D1 ready high tier kids the Clemson staff recruits. Well the SC fans think we are now LOSING the in state recruiting battle. See this discussion....
Clemson has 15 verbals, and not one of them...

We all know they are playing at an elite level right now and command a national appeal in recruiting. But so far as being the "home team," they are NOT. I like that Coach Muschamp is building a good relationship with the high school programs of South Carolina, while Dabo and company are off globe trotting. I think this is paying dividends now, and will for years to come. What say you guys?
I saw that. They've always had good luck in Florida, and Atlanta is a hotbed of recruiting less than 2 hours from Pickens. They're still killing it in recruiting, they need to not got the playoffs this year to slow them down.
I'm way more concerned about UGA recruiting than Pickens Tech...UGA is lights out with three 5* commits and seven 4* commits...last year they signed seven 5* recruits...
Muschamp was pretty open about the fact that he planned to re-establish ties in the Carolinas (north and south). He made a comment one time that he wanted to have more signees in the Shrine bowl than any other program, and another comment about how tiny little SC had produced a lot of NFL talent.
That strategy seems to be paying off. Sure, he'll still need to supplement the class with recruits from FL, GA and other places because SC or even the Carolinas doesn't produce enough talent to produce an elite SEC team. But USC is the only SEC program in the Carolinas and he could therefore realistically make USC the program of choice for players from that territory. That pays big dividends when the next Lattimore or Clowney come along, which is basically what just happened with Zacch Pickens.
I think there is always a blend. in addition to covering your own back yard first, then these = Atlanta/ georgia surrounding areas Charlotte & Raleigh Florida & southern flo-rida a little Tenn & AL. The occasional long range kids with unique ties, or opportunities where we are showing potential out west and in northern zones are fine, just don't see us over shopping that far out with regularity.
I am pleased with the momentum, attention and perceived energy around the program at present.
Theoretically.
There are 48 players in the NFL from South Carolina. The average nfl career is 5 years. Thus, South Carolina produces almost 10 nfl players per year (Odd that the state never has ten 4 stars, but that's another issue.)
So, name me the years that Clemson or South Carolina has ever sent 10 players to the NFL.
Imagine having a team that sends 10 players to the NFL every year. That's 40 future NFL players on your team each year! That's what you would have if you totally dominated in state recruiting.
Of course, the state does not produce many NFL or even big college level qbs or O linemen. You would still need to supplement those positions with out of staters.
