Carolina fans talking about wanting to come back to the ACC .....
But I think we may need to go back to the ACC. I don’t know if we will ever be able to compete playing a schedule like we are playing in 2019. It’s easy to gear up for one tough out of conference game like Clemson does against the SEC. We would be able to get players because we would win more in the ACC
Clemson football would have never gotten to where they were if they had been in SEC.
Going to those 2009 and 2011 ACC championship games and winning one (with worse teams than we had those years), along with the Orange Bowls in 2011 and 2013 (even if they got killed in one), is what really propelled their program forward.
Through those 5 years (2009-2013), we had better teams than they did every year but only had an SEC championship game and non BCS bowls to show for it.
They had 2 ACC championship games, 1 ACC championship, and 2 Orange Bowls. They also undeservedly kept being ranked in the top 10 until they lost to us, just because they beat bad teams.
It made it much easier to go recruit big time recruits nationally because recruits knew they had a good chance at playing in conference championship games and BCS bowls, if not more.
With us, they saw that even when we were at our best we still couldn't win anything big or go to a BCS bowl.
If Clemson was in SEC those years they go to 0 conference championship games and 0 BCS bowls and never sign the Deshaun Watson and Dexter Lawrences types.
I hate the ACC and wouldn't want to be in that league again but we have not been able to run with the "big dogs" in the SEC since we joined. If we cant recruit like Clemson, GEorgia, Bama, etc, we will continue to be mediocre. Its very simple.
