The best of all scenarios has come true for Clemson fans. The mainstay of our defense is returning for "unfinished business". In all honesty, the defense played well enough to win against Alabama. It really did. It held Alabama to 268 yards of total offense, played with their backs against the wall all night as Bama maintained field position pretty much throughout the entire game. Two UNTIMELY interceptions led to 14 points inside our own 25. This defense will dominate, plain and simple. The absolute KEY to our season is how well and how quickly the offense gells.
Y'all might think it starts with the quarterback, but it doesn't. It starts with the offensive line. Mitch Hyatt returning is YUGE!!!! Hyatt returns along with Falcinelli, Pollard, Anchryum, and Simpson. This is where the experience stops. Behind this starting five, there is very little experience. Cervenka, Giella, and Stewart received the most reps, in which most were in mop up duty. Reeves should see more playing this year as well. This leads to FIVE new faces that will need to "bring it" in the spring and fall. Bockhorst, Dehond and Vinson all redshirted last year, and then you have McFadden and the THE BIG NEW MAN on the OL, Jackson Carman. At 6-6 340, he is a man among men and needs to come in and work his hiney off to get up to "college speed". Robby Caldwell has his work cut out for him. Get this OL in shape and it all comes together.
Exactly Chuck, now is the perfect time for Justyn Ross to step in and claim some reps. Higgins, Rodgers and Renfrow are very good, but guys like Thompson, Powell, Overton and Chase havent yet had the chance to get a lot of reps. Bryant at QB is still going the RPO route. I believe with Lawrence, there might be a few more balls aired out and the WRs can come into their own.
Excellent points! Looking forward to who steps up at reciever also! Plenty of talent, little experience! Love the way Tee came on towards the end of the season, Amari showed great hands...Overton, Chase, Powell along with Mr. dependable Renfrow! Going to be exciting!
