Memorial Day "Clemson Remembers"

It's a hot well above 90 degree day in upstate South Carolina on this Thursday afternoon as I arrive at the "scroll of honor" located adjacent to the "Hill" and the East Endzone of "Death Valley". The scroll was created to honor the fallen veterans that Clemson has lost to the service of our country.

Currently 493 names are etched literally in stone surrounding this mound and representing the sacrafice this Clemson community has given to this country in the many years. Clemson being an ex-military school has represented the State proudly with its service and this memorial stands to honor these fallen heroes.

On this day we stopped by to take part in a new tradition the "Placing of the Flags" now done on Memorial Day and again on the week of "Military Appreciation" held in November. A new tradition that was started and is kept alive by local Clemson Alumni and resident Trent Allen and his wife. Trent's wife actually came up with the idea years ago after watching the Memorial Day celebration at Arlington National Cematary. And the idea was born and since they have made this a lovely Clemson tradition we hope to see more and more Tigers taking part in over the coming years.
