Tigers Slam Cardinals 5-1 in Game 1

After dropping a Tuesday night game to Georgia 5-3, the Tigers were back in action to for a weekend series with #8 Louisville, looking for the chance to bounce back.

Louisville would pull out to an early lead in the top of the 2nd inning to put the Cards ahead by one run. Clemson would bring in not one but two home runs back to back from Logan Davidson and Kyle Wilkie, his first of the season that would put the Tigers ahead 4-1.

The home run by Davidson would be his eighth on the season and Wilkie’s 1st.

Elijah Henderson brought the heat with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to extend the Tigers lead 5-1.

The Tigers were able to snap Louisville’s 6-game win streak and the Tigers are now one game behind division leader NC State. The Tigers have improved to 23-7 overall and 10-3 within the ACC with the 5-1 win.

The Tigers went up against a dominant Louisville pitcher, Reid Detmers. Detmers recorded in the month of March alone, recorded 62 strikeouts, walking only four and was the National Pitcher of the Month.

Clemson’s Davis Sharpe improved to 5-1 on the season after pitching 6 ⅔ innings before being relieved by Holt Jones. Sharpe threw 107 pitches, struck out seven, walked one, gave up four hits and an earned run. Holt Jones would pitch for the remainder of the game and would not allow a run. Jones earns his third save of the season.

The second game of the matchup is scheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m and the series will wrap up Sunday at noon.
