Throwing their guy to the curb already, Lawrence does not look like another Watson if that's what their thinking.
Playing an entire game is worlds different than playing a few plays a game to entertain the crowd.
Haven't watched a lot of Clemson this year. Does Lawrence have much mobility?
Look, dance with the guy that brought you. Clemson's success has come with a series of qb's that were pass/run threats. A qb that can run, particularly in a spread offense, adds so much as opposed to a one-dimensional passing guy.
Clemson might never have beated Bama with Bryant at qb. But no matter how well they've recruited, their offensive line isn't capable of dealing with what Bama has stockpiled on the defensive line.
They've changed with the times, but Alabama was designed to destroy teams that did drop back passer/ power running. Other than a couple losses to LSU, I don't think Alabama has been beated by anyone without a running qb since Saban's first season there.
And to be honest, we have a guy coming in this spring that is really touted. I sure hope he has some wheels, because I want to see plays extended, the qb taking off and converting 3rd downs, the qb running it himself on RPO's and designed plays.
Immobile pocket qb, do not want. Show me the wheels. I'd gladly have an endless stream of Connor Shaws over a bunch of Sam Darnold's.
Guys, look at their schedule, it does not matter who quarterbacks. They play no one with even a hint of a defense. Go back and look at A@M game and if Lawrence plays the whole game they lose. Bryant ran offense much better and even announcers said the same thing.
Bryant gets hurt and Lawrence looks good against who?? Ga Tech, a team that lost to Pitt who just lost to UNC who is awful.
Not a big risk when you are playing a schedule full of ACC teams that are just awful. I mean, their 2nd best team just got beat by ODU!!
I will give Dabo credit for making the change before fifth game so Bryant can redshirt.
Agree with you...no one in the ACC will challenge Clemson with a pee wee league QB. However, big boy football starts after the ACC schedule is done, yeah I’m starting with us.
Unfortunately for us, I think Lawrence is the real deal. I think his strength is passing; however, I am also aware that he can run the ball as well. Time will tell, but I think he is good, real good. Sorry.
Yep. We can hope that this kid has a game or three where he makes a lot of freshman mistakes, but shoot, against that schedule, the 4th string guy could win.
