Besides Alabama
The SEC has long believed that their conference is the "cat's pajama's" and clearly the best conference in college football. In 2008, ESPN signed a 15 year contract with the SEC worth $2 Billion, to televise sporting events, including football and basketball. It basically matched the length of the league's deal with CBS earlier in August of that year. Mile Slive "This agreement makes the SEC the most widely distributed conference in the country.
Since 2008, the SEC has won 7 of 10 National Championships. The 10 years prior to 2008, the SEC won 3 of 10. Thanks to ESPN, the SEC had the money to distribute to their schools which afforded them the opportunity to pay the best coaches, upgrade their facilities, extend their viewing footprint, thus getting viewed by more players and fans across the country. So, having said all this, the SEC, lovingly referred to as ESECPN the last 10 years or so, has been given the "media darling" tag, and has produced such sayings as "SEC caliber linemen" or "SEC speed" and so on and so on. Their fans somehow became the fanbase that thought up the chant "SEC SEC SEC", basically thanks to the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Florida and LSU. Along came Texas A&M and South Carolina, two coattail riders that has the attitude of the SEC but certainly not the trophy case, at least not in football, which is what is being discussed here.
At least two, possibly more, Texas A&M players predicted an upset or an Aggie victory. The players figured since they came close last year at home that because Clemson lost their front four on the defensive line and 7 defensive starters all together that they had what it took to go into Death Valley and come away with a victory. They seemed to forget that they TOO lost 7 starters on their defense including their top running back and talented tight end. Needless to say, the Aggie offense was throttled, Clemson's offense left points on the field and the score was closer than the actual game with Coach Jimbo Fisher going all out to get a touchdown on the board with 6 seconds left on the clock.
Meanwhile, a little further north, the Miami Hurricanes was getting upset by the North Carolina Tarheels up in Chapel Hill. UNC converted a 4th and 17 late in the 4th quarter and went on to score the winning touchdown with 1:01 left in the game. The previous week, the Tarheels came from behind to beat a mediocre South Carolina team in Charlotte, 24-20. So, North Carolina is now 2-0, scoring 52 points while allowing 45 points. Understanding the UNC fans only had two wins to cheer for in 2018, what happened at the end of the Miami game clearly indicates what we all believe is true......the NC administration has decided to sell alcohol at the games this year.
North Carolina Tarheels. Do you really want Clemson? I think you may be the only team in the country that "thinks" they want Clemson. Besides Alabama.
