Both Clemson Golf Teams Ranked in Top 20 by Golfweek
Clemson, S.C.—Both Clemson golf teams are ranked in the top 20 of the first Golfweek national team rankings released this week. The Clemson women are ranked 15th in the first poll and the Tiger men are rated 18th.
The Clemson women are coming off its best team finish in two seasons, a tie for second at the Mason Rudolph Championship at Franklin, Tenn in the season opener. Clemson finished in a tie for second with host school Vanderbilt, who was ranked third in the nation in the Women’s Coaches Association preseason poll. The Clemson men, who finished in a tie for eighth at the NCAA national Tournament last year, have played two tournaments this year and had a seventh-place at the Carpet Classic and a third place at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate. Clemson beat five teams ranked in the top 20 of the Men’s Coaches Association preseason poll at that tournament. Turk Pettit led the Tigers at that tournament with a second place finish.
Clemson is one of seven programs ranked in the top 20 of both Golfweek polls. The others are Wake Forest, Arizona, Arizona State, Washington, Arkansas and Southern California. Both programs will be in action this coming weekend. The women will be at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Okla. Friday through Sunday, while the men will be in Portland, Oregon at the Nike Elite Sunday through Tuesday.
